The MTX Audio 55 Series subwoofers are the perfect solution for improving your car sound quality while taking up little space. Their low profile means they do not need a large enclosure and will still deliver powerful bass. How do they do this? With an improved surround compared to traditional Half-Roll surrounds, expanded surface area and reduced distortion due to progressive suspension controls. With over 40 years of audio experience, MTX Audio makes sure and knows how to create quality audio with their products, and the 55 Series is no exception!
The MTX Inverted Apex Surround increases the surface area of the sub to allow for more air movement, accurate bass reproduction and higher SPL. Traditional Half-Roll Surrounds have an inherent wrinkling when reproducing bass due to the physics of its motion, which causes distortion. The Inverted Apex Surround moves symmetrically through both positive and negative cycles which eliminates this type of distortion.
Progressive Suspension control the excursion of the subwoofer at high power levels which reduces distortion. Eliminating this 3rd order distortion means you can play your music loud and rely on your subwoofer to take of itself.
Two features really make sure the MTX subwoofers stay cool: the Spider Plateau Venting and the Radial Ribbed T-Yoke. The Spider Plateau Venting is a mechanical cooling process that targets cool air at the voice coil. This means the subwoofer cools itself as it is playing. The Radial Ribbed T-Yoke acts as a heat sink that dissipates heat and decreases distortion.

Good sound quality but short life
I had this sub for 5 months in a sealed enclosure and powered by an sundown sfb600, at 1ohm. I have the amp set at about 250w(16v) output for the first 2 months to break in, the I turned it up to 400w(20v) output at 50hz. It lasted a few months and now at lower volume you can hear a vibrating/rattling noise coming from the sub. This is my first mtx sub and I figured the quality would be as good as their amps, but it's not
