What is the best wiring to use for a single-sub setup?

This is a Dual 4-Ohm sub. To maximize your amp's output, wire it in parallel (connect both positives together and both negatives together). This creates a 2-Ohm load, which is the "sweet spot" for most mono amplifiers.

My 12" sub box is exactly 3.5" deep. Will this fit?

The 12TW3-D4 has a 3.5" mounting depth. For a DIY install, you need to add at least 1/4" of breathing room behind the magnet or use a spacer ring to ensure the back of the sub doesn't rattle against the wood.

The subwoofer makes a "chuffing" sound at high volume. Is it blown?

Usually, this is an air leak. Because the TW3 moves so much air, the mounting "ears" must be perfectly sealed. Use 1/2" wide closed-cell foam gasket tape around the mounting flange to ensure a 100% airtight seal against the box.

I’m building a custom box; do I need to worry about a "pole vent" on the back?

No. The TW3 design has no pole vent on the rear of the motor. This allows you to mount the sub almost flush against the back wall of your enclosure, which is a massive advantage for under-seat truck installs.

Why are the mounting holes in such a strange pattern?

JL uses a tab-ear mounting system to fit a 12" cone into a frame that fits in tight spaces. Use the included template to pre-drill your holes.

Can I use this in a ported/vented box, or is it "Sealed Only"?

While it excels in tiny sealed boxes (0.80 cu. ft.), it can work in a ported box (0.95 cu. ft.). However, for DIYers, sealed is recommended to protect the shallow suspension from "unloading" (over-extending) at very low frequencies.

What gauge speaker wire should I use for the 400W RMS power?

Use 12-gauge or 14-gauge Oxygen-Free Copper (OFC) wire. The spring-loaded terminals on the TW3 are designed specifically for these sizes. Using 8-gauge wire is too thick and may snap the terminal housing if the wire is pulled tight.

Best shallow mount sub

I have 1x 12tw3-d4 installed in a 2020 f150 crew cab platinum in a down fire under rear seat non ported box powered by a rd500, integrated with a lc2i pro and it freaking slams!!! Nice pure clean real bass! JL audio is the top of the line in my opinion! Don’t question it just buy it and you will be overly happy!!
