I'm a fan!
back in june of 2003, i had a Rockford Fosgate HX2 18" wired to a JL 500/1 with 2.0Farad Capacitor in a hatchback. a pinhole leak in the box blew the spidercoil out. after that, i installed two JL12" W3 D4's with same amp & cap, same car. this box hits exactly like the two twelves. the two twelves hit harder than the 18" rockford sub, and the Alpine PLV-5 hits very hard. if you are swallowing and the right frequency hits, you will choke. you have to turn it down to drink liquid. this is not two 15" solobaric, however for the price, size, and performance, it cannot be beat. i purchased mine locally for $699 and i'm not peeved a bit, since its an amp, box, and subs all in one. doesnt need a capacitor, although the lights slightly dim when the bass hits in my 02 Benz C230 hatchback.
its quite impossible that a small factory sub- even one in a highline car- can hit as hard as this sub can. this sub makes something in my right ear rattle inside my head- thats no exaggeration.
the sub itself is a conversation piece. i recommend you read up on how it actually works, its fascinating. and when you open your trunk, people get flustered. if you like the WOW factor, like being unique (you can tell i do, i drive a supercharged mercedes hatchback), then this is for you. i'm on this website actually because i am considering adding a second. i like this sub so much, that i'm thinking about adding another on my neverending quest to make myself deaf by the time i hit twenty five.

Waste of Money!!!
Alpine PLV-7. It looked cool, it was innovative, took up a small footprint, amp, box and subs included. The claim that these (6) 7" woofers sound like Two 12's is probably the biggest lie I have ever heard in my life!!! The only way this thing would be comparable to Two 12's is if you went to Wal-Mart and bought a $49.00 (50 watt) audiovox amp and a cheap sub box loaded with Two 1978 12" paper cone craico subwoofers.
Then it would be close? If I play any music other than heavy deep bass music like Rap or hip hop... you would never even know this thing was back there, and even then it only vibrates a little and a small gain in bass over all! The factory Bose small sub in my center console is way more impressive than this alpine system is, and that is not saying a whole lot! It would honestly take at least (8) of these to even come near Two Decent 12's with suffecient power!!! I played with tuning this thing for about Thirty minutes and if you set this sub above 60 hertz, or turn anything else past half way all you will hear is air puffing through the port. This enclosure would make a much better hair dryer than a subwoofer!
