caused alternator whine
This allowed me to keep my factory BMW headunit and keep bass volume up but its causing unbearable alternator whine. When I disconnect the unit the whine goes away.

MTX Audio reQ-5
The reQ-5 by MTX makes adding amps to your factory radio easy. I have a 09 F-150 and an aftermarket radio and installation kit would be
out of my price range. The reQ-5 solved that problem at a fraction of the cost. Now I have super clear sound , tremendous bass and my dash is still factory. Well worth it.

Works well but a few issues
Works very well but has a couple of problems and the manual could use some attention. Installed in '07 Tundra driving Sony 4-channel and a sub amp. I'm not using the supplied aux input (yet).
One major issue is the 15-second off time on the auto-sensing trigger (to turn amps on/off). This is too short and will cause amps to turn off between songs when one song ends or starts quietly. Once level increases enough, ampt turn on but you miss part of the song. I ended up using accessory B+ and bypassing sensing circuit. This timer should be closer to a minute or two.
The supplied fuse holder is subject to poor connection (e.g. hitting road bumps) causing pops and amp shutdown - replace it with a better one.
Each channel has two inputs to the unit (8 total + a sub). With a "normal" factory HU, half of these are unused and clutter up the installation. I bridged the sub input as the manual suggested and clipped the unused wires at the connector.
There are two surface-mount red LEDs near the power-on LEDs. There is no explanation in the manual but they appear to be clipping indicators.
The "front/rear sub level" switches are poorly documented. I can't really tell what they do. Are they high-pass x-overs? Controlled by the sub x-over frequency? What frequency is the -3dB, -6dB at? Is it volume sensitive?
There's no info on MTX's web site and MTX has not responded to an email query about these issues. Since this is a new product, hopefully we'll see answers soon.

Great Product
Highly recommended, need some elec/mech skills to install. The manual sheet does not provide much info. Got additional info from a Google search. After 3 different configurations, finally settled on one. In a 2011 Sportage, used a 4 Chan Hifonics, 2 chan Sound Storm for 10" Sub with Polk 6.5s/tweeters in front and factory 6.5s in rear. After many days of listening and tweaking the bass and clarity are 100x better than the OEM amp/speakers. No more alternator/engine noise. The bass is not too loud or soft...just right. The remote out wire with the AC volt turn feature saved time because I did not need to locate the factory remote wire. Great product.

Great product ! But...
This unit works very well and does what it is supposed to but, it amplified an alternator whine that was inaudible in the factory amplification. The sound was excellent until the vehicle was started! I attempted multiple fixes but no change other than the noise getting a bit lower in tone. I was able to return the unit and purchased a Kenwood DD screen from Sonic. Sonic provides GREAT service and has awsome pricing!

Warning: There's a reason this product is discontinued...
The MTX Re-Q is a terrible product. It worked fine for a year after purchase, but one summer later, the thing broke down. Every single time I turned my car off, the MTX Re-Q would send a LOUD signal to my sub for no reason. My sub would start shaking violently. The only way to stop this was to turn the Re-Q off or unplug the sub.
It isn't even good at bass restoration! After it broke, I replaced it with a simple Line-Out Converter to save money. The bass was actually more defined and clearer with the LOC!
All in all, MTX did not do a good job on this product. $20 LOC's beat this product.
