The amplifier remote level control and cable remotely control the bass level of compatible JL Audio amplifiers. When it is connected to compatible amplifiers, it acts as an attenuator on the input gain of the amplifier and is used to adjust the overall level of the amplifier from the front of the vehicle.

Valuable piece of equipment
The remote level control is very handy when you are using a stock radio. It is rather pricey but needed in my opinion if your radio is stock. Not the best looking unit I've seen but it does the trick.
