Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The speakers are installed, but the bass sounds weaker than my factory speakers. Why?

This is usually a polarity issue. If one speaker is wired "out of phase" (positive/negative swapped), the sound waves cancel each other out, killing the bass. Double-check that the larger terminal is connected to the positive wire on both sides.

Will these 6.5" speakers fit in my car's 6.75" or oversized factory openings?

Yes, but you will likely need mounting adapter brackets (like Metra 82-series). Most factory speakers use a unique 3-bolt pattern; the Kicker’s multi-hole steel frame is versatile but often requires an adapter plate to provide a solid, airtight seal.

Can I install these without cutting my vehicle’s original wiring plugs?

Definitely. Use a vehicle-specific speaker harness (e.g., Metra 72-series). This allows you to plug directly into the car’s factory connector and slide the other end onto the Kicker’s terminals, making the install "plug-and-play" and reversible.

Will the tweeter hit my factory door panel or grille?

No. These are designed with "Zero Protrusion" tweeters, meaning the tweeter sits flush with the top of the woofer rim. This allows you to reinstall your factory door panels without the tweeter pressing against or damaging the mesh grille.

My door panel is vibrating or rattling after installation. How do I fix this?

Aftermarket speakers move more air than factory ones. Use the included foam gaskets between the speaker and the mounting surface. For the best DIY fix, apply a small square of sound-deadening material (like Dynamat) to the metal around the speaker.

I’m using these with a factory radio and they aren't very loud. Is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. These have a high sensitivity (90dB), but they are rated for 100W RMS. A factory radio only puts out about 10–15W. While they work with stock units, adding a small 4-channel amplifier will unlock their full volume and "punch."

The included mounting screws feel loose in my car's metal door frame. What to do?

Factory holes are often too large for standard screws. Use the Speed Clips (U-nuts) by sliding the clip over the mounting hole in the metal door frame; this gives the screw a threaded surface to bite into for a secure, rattle-free mount.

Can I use these in a marine or boat application?

These are not Marine Certified. While they feature UV-treated surrounds that resist sunlight, they are not designed for direct water exposure or salt air. For boats or open-top Jeeps, we recommend the Kicker KM-Series instead.
