Good bassy earphones; durability issue
I quite enjoyed listening to these during walks or break time at work. They have great sounding mids and thumping bass, however the treble is warbly and a bit weird-sounding. I thought this was due to lack of burn-in but even after several months of use it was still exhibiting this sound. It toned down a bit after use; I got used to it.
The phone housing is such that it does not let you insert the ear tip beyond a shallow fit, which does two things:
- it does not seal properly unless seated while listening, allowing the sound to escape the the bass to evaporate
- the earphones popped out of the ear quite easily even with light movement
Because the plastic halves of each earphone were glued together the left side had quite a bit of a gap to it. I actually had to use a Dremel-tool to 'shave' a bit of plastic off the left housing as the plastic was not flush with the earpiece part and kept digging in my ear making wearing uncomfortable.
The inline volume control/mic worked perfectly on my Samsung Captivate, but did not work on the Galaxy S3 which was interesting/strange. The cables are quite on the thin side and this leads to the next point.
Despite the fact I quite enjoyed their sound, the Q350's durability is not great; just below the right-ear housing the cable frayed on the inside which caused that side to cut out. This happened just 2 months into ownership. I was using the included pouch to store the earphones while not in use and in transit. I may have been a bit careless with having them in my pocket but I still think they need to be more robust to stand up to daily usage.
Glad my warranty claim was honoured which is a credit to SonicE, but I will be wary about buying another AKG product.
