JL Audio gave birth to the W6 series in 1993, since becoming the best selling Subwoofer Driver in their entire artillery. The latest generation, the v3, stays true to what embodies the W6 pedigree. Built along side JL Audio's flagship W7AE, the W6v3 Series shares many patented groundbreaking technologies found in its ultra-performance bigger brother. In addition to these technologies, the W6v3's also incorporate a patented cooling structure that efficiently channels air around the voice cold to further improve handling and its JL Audio fidelity. The suspension design features a rubber surround for enhanced durability and a large-diameter, progressive roll spider to provide linear compliance over the woofer’s excursion range. The cones are injection-molded, mineral-filled polypropylene and incorporate a silver accent ring that creates a classy new look in combination with the satin black cast alloy basket.
Although the W6v3 Subwoofer can be driven with as little as 200 Watts, for best audio performance it is recommended to run an amplifier capable of between 400 - 600 Watts of continuous power per driver, like the JL Audio XD600/1v2 or JL Audio 600/1v3. In addition, these subwoofers are optimized to operate in either a ported or sealed enclosures, needing only 0.55 cubic feet of air space in a sealed box and 0.75 cubic feet in a ported/vented enclosure. (Specific dimensions and figures can be found in the user manual, linked further below.)
Like its W7AE brethren, all W6v3 subwoofers are built with extreme precision in JL Audio's Miramar, Florida factory, with extreme prejudice to craftsmanship and overall build quality. Its this attention to detail that delivers the JL Audio quality and performance we have all become accustomed to.
The bullet-shaped structure inside the pole-vent, located directly in the center of the magnet structure, directs airflow and increases air velocity to effectively reduce voice coil temperature, leading to improved fidelity and reliability. Moreover, JL Audio's patented Elevated Frame Cooling design delivers cool air through slots directly above the top-plate to the voice coil of the speaker. This not only enhances power handling, but also sound quality by minimizing dynamic parameter shifts and power compression. To put it simply, the harder the W6v3 works, the more air its moving to keep itself cool.
DMA is JL Audio’s proprietary Dynamic Motor Analysis system and is aimed at improving dynamic motor behavior. As a result of DMA optimization, W7AE motors remain linear in motor force over an extreme range of excursion and also maintain a highly stable fixed magnetic field in the gap over a wide power range. This leads to vastly reduced distortion and faithfully reproduced transients... or put simply: tight, clean, articulate bass. Its main catalyst is the driver's Ultra-long Voice Coil, that allows extreme linear excursion, phenomenal power handling and control, control, control
