These are 2.3-ohm speakers. Will they damage my standard 4-ohm factory radio?

No. JBL’s "Plus One" 3-ohm architecture (which measures 2.3 ohms at the terminals) is designed to be safely driven by any factory head unit. It actually pulls more power from weak radios, providing a volume boost without overheating the system.

My window hits the back of the speaker when I roll it down. What is the fix?

These have a 2.9" mounting depth. If the magnet obstructs the window, install a 1/2" spacer ring between the speaker and the door. This pushes the speaker forward. Just ensure your door panel has enough clearance for the tweeter.

The speaker fits the hole, but the screw holes don't line up with my car. Any tips?

Many cars (Toyota, Dodge, Ford) use non-standard 6x9 patterns. Instead of drilling into your car’s metal, use a vehicle-specific adapter bracket. This ensures a secure, rattle-free mount and centers the speaker perfectly behind the grille.

Why do these speakers sound distorted when I turn up the bass on my stock radio?

These are designed for clarity. If your stock radio "clips" at high volume, it sends a distorted signal. To fix this, set your Bass EQ to "Flat" (0) and use a high-pass filter if available, or add a small amplifier to handle the power demands.

I’m replacing a factory woofer that had 4 wires. Which two do I use for the JBL?

Your car likely had a separate tweeter. You must identify the "full-range" signal wires. If the factory wires are split (bi-amped), you will only get bass or only highs. You may need a signal "summing" adapter to get the full sound range.

There is a gap between the speaker frame and the mounting surface. Is this okay?

No. Any gap will cause "acoustic short-circuiting," which destroys bass response. Use the foam gaskets included in the box to create a 100% airtight seal. If the gap is large, use foam "Fast Rings" to bridge the space to the door panel.

The highs are way too loud compared to the bass. Can I turn the tweeter down?

The GX9638 features an adjustable Tweeter Output Level. Locate the button on the face of the tweeter; pressing it allows you to reduce the high-frequency output by -3dB, which helps balance the sound if the speakers are mounted high in the door.

One speaker stopped working after a rainy day. What should I check first?

Water often leaks inside car doors. Check if the terminals are corroded or if the wire slipped off. Use "Heat Shrink" or electrical tape over the spade connectors during your DIY install to prevent moisture from shorting the connection.

Crisp quality highs with rich sound

I just installed these in the front doors with GX-628 in the rear doors, and an amplifier/subwoofer behind the rear seat in our 2023 f150. The sound is awesome, and the only negative thing is that the software in the Ford stereos is limited to adjusting ranges between the regular highs, mids, and lows. Regardless, these speakers are tremendously richer in sound and clarity. You won't regret this purchase!!

Harness had male terminals. Needed female terminals to plug into factory connector. Also had to cut screw length. And speaker to adapter screw holes did not line up.
