Great sound

I was pleasantly surprised when I hooked these up on the rear baffle in my 67 T Bird. I had a pair of 6x8 NVX I custom installed already and the stock speaker holes are 5 1/4 so I decided to match them up. They are sharing the rear channel of an Alpine 100x4 amp so at 2 ohms each speaker gets 75 watts rms of clean alpine power. and boy they sound rich and detailed, it was surprising for a speaker of this price.

I cannot believe the sound these put out for how little they cost! I've slowly been testing out NVX products and I've been impressed with everything I've come across so far. Hook these up to an amp and they really come to life.

Needed some mods, happy now!

Well, these speakers had a harsh upper mid-range. I suspect this is from the 5.25 in cone breakup in the 4500+Hz range. I experimented with a simple low pass filter (coil, about 0.25 mH), which was certainly not optimal, but helped begin the roll-off in the 2500-3000 range; I tested the mod side by side, modifying one speaker at a time. Now I'm pleased with their sound clarity. Obviously why component speakers outperform the simple coaxial containing just a capacitor on the tweeter. Overall I'm impressed with NVX products. With a good quality CD these are pretty sweet sounding from a upgraded head unit, no amp. except on the sub.

I was pleasantly surprised at how well these sound, great midbass and crisp highs. I also sound deadened the crap out of my doors and that made them even better.

Impressive

When I read the rms wattage for these speakers I was not ecpecting much as far as performance. Boy was that misleading but in good way. At first I connected them to my head unit and they sd ounded ok. Then I hooked them to my amp giving them 100 watts rms and WOW what a suprise. The clarity and volume and mid bass and highs were amazing. I could not beleive what I was hearing coming from these speakers that were so inexpensive. It blew my mind just how good the sound quality was and how loud they truly reached. These speakers are the most underrated speakers I have ever purchased and in my 59 years of existance thats a bunch a punch. I installed them in the rear quarter panels of my 2004 silverado single cab where the OEM were 4"x6" speakers. Just cut the opening a little bigger with some tin snips and they were good to go. I wasn't even going to replace the oem speakers because most people had stated that it would not be worth it. THEY WERE WRONG it made a world of difference. My system consist of 3-10" subwoofers 2 alpine type R's and 1 NVX104 and in the doors alpine spr 60c. A Hifonics BRX1600.1D amp and a Rockville RXM-F4 rated @ 100 watts rms@ 4ohms both amps are CEA2006 Certifide and my system rocks.

Unexpected surprise

I was hesitant to buy these speakers. I saw that they are rated @ 40 watts rms each. I did not think they could handle much more than that. Well I was wrong. I put 100 watts on these speakers and they really shined. Surprised the hell out of me. I installed them in the rear quarter panels in my 2004 single cab silverado. I had to cut the opening bigger with a pair of tin snips but it was very easy to do and I am so glad I did. There was no way I was going to install a pair of 4x6s like was there. These 5 1/4" NVX speakers are really exceptional. They are worth three times the cost. I would recomend these to anyone. What a great deal.
