Not Really Factory Head Unit Compatible?
I purchased these to replace factory speakers in my Nissan Xterra. I am powering these with the factory head unit which may be a contributing factor to my experience. I primarily chose these due to their 3-ohm impedance to pull more power from my factory head unit since I do not want to get into a full system overhaul. The frequency response numbers looked decent, but after hearing them I want to see a chart.
The grittiness of low-fidelity streaming was exposed by the clarity of the tweeters, CDs and lossless streaming were MUCH better. The tweeters are a little on the harsh side overall so I leave the treble rolled back a bit.
The woofers have a really punchy mid-bass (which I like) but the low end really falls off fast below about 80/90Hz (which I don’t like). These do not make the cut as full range stand alone speakers for my application. The factory speakers out-perform the Infinity speakers when paired with the factory head. The rear factory door speakers now sound like subwoofers and carry all my low end.
I bet these would sound awesome paired with a modest subwoofer to round out the low end but I do not want to get into buying and installing a new head, amps or subs to attempt to improve their performance in my particular vehicle application.
