MTX Audio T81244A 12" Thunder 8000 Series

Awesome Bass!!!

I highly reccommend this subwoofer. I have used MANY different subs over the past 30 years including Rockford, Soundstream, JL Audio, Kicker, Alpine Type R, and others I just can't remember. I competed in IASCA through the 90's as well as judging several IASCA events as well. I worked for Phoenix Gold at the turn of the century in their PR/Mktg. department, and did free car audio "tune-ups" at car shows for PG.

Anyway, I got a pair of these from a friend and planned to use them in a modest system I was building for my wife's Protege. The system, now, is ANYTHING BUT MODEST.

I was immediately struck by the sound quality of these woofers. My wife and I are both drummers (we have a big kit set up in our living room!!) , and we noticed that the sound of a kick-drum (bass drum) was EXACTLY PERFECT. In other words, it was IMPOSSIBLE for us to tell the difference between the subs, and an actual bass drum being struck in the back seat. I am being completely honest. That first "attack" you feel in your chest is there, and then a milli-second later the lower harmonics, and then a very fast decay (my wife and I have damped our bass drum with several blankets) . It truly was EXACTLY like a real bass drum had been hit. AMAZING.

I was using a Sony amp to power the pair ( XM-1002HX) and it produced about 280 watts RMS. I decided to up that so I got a Kenwood KAC-7252 that produces 500 watts RMS X 1. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! These subs have both incredible power AND incredible sound quality.

Again, I have heard A LOT of subwoofers and yes, there are more powerful subs than these. But for the combination of both great SQ AND great power, you can not do much better!!!!

Super Bass

These subs are amazing I own 2 of the 2003 models and they are so loud on only 100 watts rms they can rock every other car at the intersection. Truly amazing!
