The JL Audio JX Series of amplifiers are designed with a specific purpose; to deliver clean, rock-solid performance and reliability at an affordable price. Unlike gimmicky price-conscious amplifiers, JL Audio employs specified oversized output transistors and rugged MOSFET power supplies to unsure proper current, thermal capacity and better overall performance. In addition, the JX250/1 includes flexible signal processing capabilities with a fully variable 12 dB/octave crossover filter, pass-through preamp outputs and a Bass EQ. With the optional JL Audio RBC-1 Remote Level Control (sold separately), you can control the subwoofer volume from the front of the vehicle.
JX monoblock subwoofer amplifiers are specifically designed to drive subwoofers. Their frequency response is limited to the range below 150 Hz., making them unsuitable for driving midrange speakers or tweeters.
For those systems that do not offer a preamp level signal option, you can connect speaker level signals directly to the "Hi-Level Inputs" connector using the supplied connector and wire harness. Simply splice the appropriate left/right and positive/negative wires to the included harness and plug the harness into the "Hi-Level Inputs" connector on the amplifier. The JX monoblock will attenuate the high-level signal to make it compatible with its input stage. Alternatively, a traditional left/ right pair of RCA type jacks is used for preamp level (low-level) signals. This is the preferred connection method whenever available.
The JX monoblock features a 12 dB/octave low-pass active filter for its internal channel. This feature is designed to attenuate frequencies above its filter frequency, so that the system's subwoofer(s) do not reproduce any audible and often harmful mid-range frequencies. The low-pass filter is fully variable between 50 Hz and 200 Hz via the “Filter Frequency” control knob. 80 Hz is a good starting point for system tuning, but its also advisable to match the crossover point with that of your satellite speakers' high-pass filter - this ensures that your system is properly distributing the frequencies to the appropriate medium.

Still don't understand JL's value
I bought this product based off reviews and JL's popular name, I should have done more research. It's a great product, easy to use, but for the price I paid, I just don't understand why. In my lifetime, I've owned Elemental Designs, Hifonics, Bazooka, all with more rms, and paid about the same, if not less. Performance wise, I couldn't tell much of a difference. I would understand if the JX was underrated, but it was rated just right.
I hate how it didn't come with a remote bass knob (sold separately, and for a lot) and not that it matters, but it doesn't have phase or subsonic filter - for that price.

I bought this amp on impulse at the local shop. I installed it under the seat in my suv and ran the jl ported w1 8" sub/box @ 4ohm. The amp never got hot under the seat, stayed cool after long play. I never tested it @ 2ohm. I ended up buying a bigger amp to run something different. This amp won't produce more than what it is rated, but it will run it's rated power efficiantly and decently clean.

the jx250/1 is a great little amp for your sub. mine draws a bit too much current and gets a bit hot only when being caned 93db. would suit a 10" perfect. bit small for the 12" 250w rms 2ohm dual coil I run but does the job

This amp is very powerful. I got it installed today with 2 10" JL audio vented subs. It hits harder than my friends setups and they have like 500 and 700 watt amps (they're not JL amps) JL is top of the line in subs and amps and in quality sound! Definitely a good thing to buy because the good price and how powerful it is, therefore you can get a really good wiring kit! Just put it this way, my parents got this for my setup and there pissed cause of how loud the bass is!

JL amp is driving my 12" woofer. It was easy to install and had great directions for adjusting it to my subwoofer. Urea a great improved to my sound system in my truck. It also really bumps when I want to. I am planning on buying another one.

Used this to provide a cleaner, adjustable signal to the factory JBL subwoofer in a Tundra Crewmax. Swapped out the HU and wanted to be able to adjust the sub level for finer tuning ability. This fit perfectly behind the passenger side seat and runs cool and provides plenty of power to the factory sub.
