Head's are going to turn when they hear the sound that pumps through the JBL GX Series speakers. But get in and "whoa!" they look incredible. Designed to fit most factory specs, the GX series fl aunt a new HARMAN-proprietary tweeter deflector, they're individually voiced, and have three-ohm voice coils for optimal power distribution. Add Plus One woofer cones, edge-driven soft dome tweeters and an ogle-worthy design, and you've got a speaker that does much more than deliver killer sound.
Harman's patented (US patent #7,548,631) Plus One polypropylene cones provide more overall speaker-cone area than other cones in its class the result is higher sensitivity, increased low frequency output and greater musical character.
Soft dome tweeters deliver a smooth high-frequency response and an increased power handling for highs and mids, which equates to more lifelike sound from vocals, cymbals, brass instruments and pianos.
Hear what you've been missing the JBL GX Series offers a frequency response that delivers the full-range response associated with exceptional sound.
The JBL GX Series are all designed to give audio enthusiasts more boom for the buck while they maintain a conservative price point, there is never a compromise in sound.
The majority of factory-speaker wiring is so thin that it can't draw the necessary power for great sound. With low-impedance, three-ohm voice coils, the GX Series speakers can pull more power from the amplifier, which means a clearer, richer sound for the listener.
Acting as a waveguide, the tweeter deflector allows for an angled, rotating speaker, which optimizes the off-axis sound performance. Because all cars are designed differently, this allows impeccable sound to travel throughout all locations in the cabin.
JBL tests every speaker design to the same rigid specifications as the automakers, subjecting them to extreme conditions that would break lesser speakers. We freeze them, bake them, shake them, blast them with ultraviolet light and drive them at full power for days to make sure your audio investment lasts for years.
For most brands, off-the-shelf speakers and a cursory approval of frequency response curves are good enough. That's not the case with JBL. We don't only listen to our speakers against the competition we voice them against each other to ensure each line has the consistent JBL sound signature that's known and sought out by those who care about their audio. This is just part of an extensive development process undertaken by some of the best transducer engineers in the world to provide the finest listening experience at any price point.

Great sound for the money
So, bought these to replace a pair of blown front speakers. They sound quite good for the money. When comparing to a pair of MB Quart 6.5" components I had in a previous car, these are better. The lows are quite good. Mids and highs are decent but those MB Quarts were a little better, however the lows on the MB Quarts were horrible due to plastic construction. The JBLs are steel and quite stout. Overall these are a much better speaker and I plan on buying a second pair along with an amp to really bring them to life.

Needs a hefty hand when EQ'ing, but pretty great then.
I bought these and the 5.25" variant to replace my door speakers. They are amped with a Class D Pioneer amplifier. On the other hand, with 14W from the head unit they are fairly easy to drive. Driven from a head-unit, distortion occurs before just before they get "roll down the windows" loud. Regardless of the sensitivity of these, an amp is recommended.
These are rated to go as low as 50 Hz, but there is an audible little bump at 45 Hz which is nice if you don't have a subwoofer. Not sure how noticeable it would be with road noise however. Then nothing until around 58 Hz. But even then, it doesn't really pick up it's full dB until 100 Hz. With an under the seat subwoofer and some clever crossover tinkering, it sounds great with a bit of sub support at 63 Hz to 100 Hz.
As you can tell above, these by no means follow a flat frequency response from 50 - 100 Hz. These frequency problem persists throughout. I EQ'd these with white noise and a sound pressure meter. Out of the box, these aren't gonna sound amazing. Bass is going to very uneven, vocals will be in a box, and treble will be a tad overbearing. 50 - 100 Hz is up and down very bad. Boost 80 Hz if you can with either EQ or subwoofer assistance.
Major vocal performance can be corrected, thankfully. There must be some kind of crossover in these between 800 Hz and 1.25 kHz that was designed by a lunatic. I had to up 800 Hz by 5 (!) dB and drop 1.2 kHz by 4 dB. Looking at a frequency spectrum of this area is hilarious. Again, not sure what they were thinking. Even with these corrections, vocals aren't perfect, but VERY much improved over stock. I also took down the 12.5 kHz range a bit. This frequency region is dependent on your hearing health though.

Sound great in my 2015 road glide.
I bought these speakers because I heard them and they had good low end. They fit right in my fairing of my road glide. I am just running them from the stock head unit and they are plenty loud. I did have to trim part of my speaker cover so it wouldn't touch the speaker. I am very pleased with them.
