With a traditional system, digital-to-analog conversion turns the digital signal into an analog signal that’s boosted by an amplifier to drive the speakers. The Clarion Full Digital Sound System uses an LSI (Large Scale Integration) chip on each speaker to modulate the 12-volt power supply voltage which then drives the speaker - adding the program and power together.
The DC voltage and digital information essentially travels along the same wires. The voltage and digital combines via the LSI chip. The speaker's 6 voice coils combine their driving energies together to transform the electrical signals to mechanical motions to produce sound. This allows the system to draw little current which is ideal for vehicles without a lot of extra power for a big sound system.

nice head unit
I really like this unit, I paid less than what I did for the Kendwood that I replaced with this and it does ten times more and the kenwood didn't have nav. Great unit and I'm not even using it to it's full potential yet.
