The new Sony GS series of amplifiers are the perfect way to get a great system in your vehicle. Whether you are expanding into a full-blown aftermarket setup, or are just looking to integrate better overall performance into your OEM setup, the GS Series has you covered. These amplifiers have been purposed-engineered with High Level Inputs - with Auto Turn-On - to integrate into most vehicles with an OEM headunit and also come equipped with Gold Plated RCA inputs for installs with a proper Aftermarket Headunit; both delivering the best possible audio transfer. These GS series amplifiers are also designed with a stylish heatsink and removable cover - which inconspicuously houses a full crossover board.
The XM-GS400, specifically, is a 4-channel amplifier that is capable of outputting a CEA Certified 70 watts RMS to four channels at 4 ohms. For setups that require a bit more power, the amplifier is stable down to 2 ohms, providing 80 watts RMS to four channels. In addition, this 4-channel amplifier can be configured to run as a 3-Channel or 2-Channel amplifier by utilizing its ability to bridge its channels. This well-balanced power output and flexibility is a perfect match for most component & coaxial speakers on the car audio market, along with some subwoofers as well.
The Sony GS Series line of amplifiers are purpose-built to be as flexible and user/installer friendly as physically possible - that begins with the amplifiers' small footprint. At 10-3/4 in width, 8" in depth and only 2-1/8" in height, the Sony GS Series is capable of fitting underneath most seats, behind most seats or along the side panel of most trunk cargo areas. This allows you or your installer to build the system in a way that best fits the space provided by the vehicle.
The XM-GS400 has a removable top panel that conceals independent front and rear 12 dB/octave variable High Pass filter and Low-Pass filter crossovers. To maximize your audio's bass potential the XM-GS400 also features independent, variable 0 - +10 dB @40 Hz bass boost circuit to increase low frequency response. Staying true to its GS Series pedigree, the XM-GS400 is equipped with gold-plated RCA inputs, speaker-connection outputs and power/ground/REM connections. In addition, all these connections are 'press' screw connects that maximize the area of the cables used. Not only does this insure that the amplifier receives the best possible current/signal, but it also makes sure that your system delivers you with transparent, accurate and high-fidelity audio.

A worthy little powerhouse.
The only con of this amp that I can think of, which is more of a preference than a con, is that the amp adopts the little fork terminals as opposed to utilizing the lug setscrew type. Nevermind that was a lie, the lack of pre-amp outputs makes it less flexible in the expansion arena when it comes to running more than one amp running in the system. Also it likes to breathe, so its best installed in a manner that allows the air to freely and easily flow through and around it so as to maximize the service life of the onboard cooling fan. otherwise heat builds up quickly and will throw the amp into thermal protection mode. Those are the bullet point cons of the Amp.
I've used it to drive a single MTX thunder 4000 10" in a sealed enclosure. A pair of Infinity Reference 10" in a center slot ported Obcon enclosure. and A single Infinity Reference 10" in a sealed enclosure. in all three setups this little magic monster brought the snarl and chest thumping out of the 10" subs in a serious way. Clean sound. rich full bodied bass, especially with its kicka$$ variable 10db boost @ 40hz that helps augment the bottom end. Approved as a sub driving amp.
I have recently incorporated this amp into my daily driver to power aftermarket front and rear mains with stock tweeters (CDT Audio ES-6CV), previously powered by a stock Harmon Kardon amp. Holy schneeezel butter beetle! I don't think I've heard better, or cleaner at this volume before, and if so, I clearly forgot. The onboard variable Xover is easy to adjust and makes this little gem a flexible powerhouse.
70W RMSx4 never sounded so dang good. Approved as a Mains driving amp.
