The Kicker 48CWRT122 is the 12" flagship thin-mount transducer from the CompRT series, meticulously engineered to provide a substantial low-frequency foundation in environments where space is at a premium. With a mounting depth of only 3-3/4", it is the definitive solution for high-fidelity bass in restricted locations, such as behind the seat of a regular-cab pickup or in shallow under-seat enclosures. This all-weather driver features a blacked-out SoloKon polypropylene cone and a UV-resistant Santoprene surround—reinforced with signature red double stitching—ensuring it maintains its acoustic integrity and mechanical poise in demanding mobile or off-road conditions.
To sustain high-output performance in its slender frame, the 48CWRT122 utilizes Kicker’s Forced-Air Cooling technology. This system uses the cone’s own motion to actively cycle air through the motor structure, allowing the subwoofer to operate 20% cooler than standard slim-line designs and preventing thermal compression during extended play. With a Dual 2-Ohm Voice Coil (DVC) configuration and an impressive 500-watt RMS power rating, this 12" driver offers the installation flexibility and mechanical authority required for sophisticated, space-saving car audio systems.

RMS rating is overratted
I had this sub hooked up for 2 days and was playing it at about 1/2-3/4 volume and it blew up. Everything was wired correctly. From what I see from other reviews this seems to be a common problem. I replaced it with a Rockford Fosgate p3d12 shallow and am so far very pleased.

Rated too high on RMS
This sub is rated way to high on RMS wattage. I had it wired to 2 ohm and it blew up within the first two weeks pushing it at a mere 400-500 rms. Very disappointing. I have owned a ton of kicker products and this was my first poor experience. On a side note, Sonic Electronics would NOT warranty a blown subwoofer. I fought with a guy on an email rant for three days and eventually had to get my warranty through Kicker directly. I will say this. As far as the subwoofers sound when it worked, it sounded great. I had it in a ported box at recommended specs for the speaker and it literally sounded like a 1,000 watt sub in a large box. It just simply did not last. I have received my replacement sub and hopefully it will last.

Must know what you are doing
These subs are available in dual 1-ohm and 2-ohm models. If you are running TWO of these.....the dual 1-ohm subs can be used with a classic 2-channel bridgeable OR a 1-ohm stable mono block. If you get the dual 2-ohm subs, they can ONLY be used with a monoblock that is at minium at least 2-ohm stable. If you don't know the difference between series and parallel wiring, you should not be wiring up subs until you do. Most sub failures are caused by incorrect wiring and/or SETTINGS. Anybody can connect wires to subs and get sound. Whether or not they last has EVERYTHING to do with experience on settings. If you are using LOUDNESS or turning your BASS up on the deck that makes you an amateur. You can achieve more by using the amp settings and your subs will last longer too. The RMS rating on these is most likely over-rated. I would guess (by weight and experience) that they could handle a clean 500-600w RMS each when wired and setup properly.

Be Careful
My amp was only stable to 2 ohm and I got this sub from Kicker even though I asked for a 2ohm, they gave me a 1 ohm. It blew as soon as we hooked it up. Kicker is awesome stuff though and always take care of their customers. Hoping for the best on this deal.

Sounds amazing for a shallow mount sub
I had this installed with a Kicker 1200.1 amp and ported box behind the back seat of my F350. Bass is boomy but also has quick punch for various genres of music. Very happy.
