A nice head unit, albeit with too many unnecessary bells and whistles.
My only gripe with this head unit are the droves of unnecessary DSP parameters. When you get this unit, make sure you immediately dial the “Road Noise” effect to maximum and flip on the “Supreme” eq. You won’t get the best sound this unit is capable of without these features. The sound will be thin, bodyless and lack detail without maximizing these features.
(You can pretty much ignore the other features, such as “speaker size” and “car type”. These are utterly useless bells and whistles)
Kenwood could have just included the useful parameters I mentioned as standard (Why would you want to have to flip a switch in order to maximize the sound on your stereo? This should be a standard feature that is on all the time)
I found it a bit of a hassle to monkey around with these features before I was able to maximize the sound. It’s almost as if the guys who engineered this piece purposefully reduced its sound quality, then included the ability to flip the necessary switches back on so you would think these Kenwood proprietary controls are like magic, bringing your music to life.
I’m not fooled, Kenwood. This is still a nice unit, but let’s consider simplifying the DSP controls on the next model.

Great buy
I have had this unit installed for about a week and loving it. great sound quality and an insane array of features. Menu navigation is fairly intuitive and the IPOD functionality is great. I like the USB extension cord, its easy to hide under the center console so the iPod can live in a stash pocket and not have any wires running in plain sight. There are too many features to describe but one great thing is that you can add your most used settings to the "favorites button" I have sub level, EQ, listening position and sub on/off assigned as my favorites, makes it super easy to find and tweak the settings you want to use frequently. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a solid HU

Great
Bought this product off ebay. easy set up great features but you must read manual know advanced settings. It powers my Kicker 6x9s and has them very crisp. Has a setting where you can tell it what car you have

awesome
I've had this head unit for a couple months now, and I really like it. It has a ton of features, you can really fine tune your system with this. The buttons are nice, it's fairly easy to navigate through everything. I wish there was a dedicated sub woofer level button but that is my only (minor) complaint. But I still love this head unit! And although it's a little pricey, I would recommend this to anybody who wants a high quality head unit.

Awesome for the money.
I have owned this unit for a couple of months now. I've actually dropped the faceplate on the street three times and all that happens is the center button that says "Kenwood" popped out, but no problems. This Head Unit does everything one would need it to. It has adjustable high and low pass filters, a 5-Band equalizer and plenty of other sound adjustment options. Though it does have many bells and whistles that don't really affect the sound (at least I can't hear it) I would buy the X994 if I had to choose again though. The color options and Bluetooth are well worth it.

Awesome HU
So I bought this HU for my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it is awesome. The iPod connectivity is excellent and easy to use, you can control it through the Head Unit itself or switch it to control from the iPod. More adjustments available than I know what to do with and it is very expandable. Sends clean signal to my 2 JL Audio W6s in the back. Great Head Unit overall and I have no issues so far.

great buy
This headunit has some really nice sound-shaping capabilities. very flexible crossover points and excellent sound.
The only thing that really bugs me I would say is the speed at which you can run through the music folders on a jump drive....I'm using an 8 gig sandisk cruzer and it seems to take a second to show the name of each folder as you scroll.
Overall, for the looks, features, and sound...you cant beat it for the price
**** Check out some reviews on YouTube, pclay43 does a great job going through all the features
