The JL Audio JX Series of amplifiers are designed with a specific purpose; to deliver clean, rock-solid performance and reliability at an affordable price. Unlike gimmicky price-conscious amplifiers, JL Audio employs specified oversized output transistors and rugged MOSFET power supplies to unsure proper current, thermal capacity and better overall performance. In addition, the JX500/1D includes flexible signal processing capabilities with a fully variable 12 dB/octave crossover filter, pass-through preamp outputs and a Bass EQ. With the optional JL Audio RBC-1 Remote Level Control (sold separately), you can control the subwoofer volume from the front of the vehicle.
JX monoblock subwoofer amplifiers are specifically designed to drive subwoofers. Their frequency response is limited to the range below 150 Hz., making them unsuitable for driving midrange speakers or tweeters.
For those systems that do not offer a preamp level signal option, you can connect speaker level signals directly to the "Hi-Level Inputs" connector using the supplied connector and wire harness. Simply splice the appropriate left/right and positive/negative wires to the included harness and plug the harness into the "Hi-Level Inputs" connector on the amplifier. The JX monoblock will attenuate the high-level signal to make it compatible with its input stage. Alternatively, a traditional left/ right pair of RCA type jacks is used for preamp level (low-level) signals. This is the preferred connection method whenever available.
The JX monoblock features a 12 dB/octave low-pass active filter for its internal channel. This feature is designed to attenuate frequencies above its filter frequency, so that the system's subwoofer(s) do not reproduce any audible and often harmful mid-range frequencies. The low-pass filter is fully variable between 50 Hz and 200 Hz via the "Filter Frequency" control knob. 80 Hz is a good starting point for system tuning, but its also advisable to match the crossover point with that of your satellite speakers' high-pass filter - this ensures that your system is properly distributing the frequencies to the appropriate medium.

So LOUD!
I have this amp hooked up in my Silverado to a 10 inch kicker L7 dual 4 ohm in a sealed box wired down to 2 ohms final load, and once you've set the gain it is waaaay louder than expected!!! I got the class A/B in Janurary and just threw in my truck and thought it was pretty loud and two months later my friend set my gain and it started to shake the dashboard!!! If you want something as a beginner system, this is more than perfect because its tiny, so you can put it anywhere, and now its a class D!!! Get this!

found this helpful.Great little Amp
I have had this amp for about 3.5-4 years now. The first two years I had it pushing a cheap Kenwood sub. The last two years I've had it hooked up to a JL 12W3. I am MORE than happy with this purchase. This little thing keeps chuggin along no matter what I throw at it. Never had an issue with overheating, even blasting music while it sat in a tight location over long, long road trips. Just bought a new car and I plan on using this same amp, no reason to upgrade unless I get the urge to run some crazy setup. Overall, very solid and clean power. Highly Recommended!

Hooked this amplifier to a single JL 12W3v3-4 in a sealed box. They sound good together. I have only had the system for a few days, so I don't know how the reliability of this amplifier is. Hopefully it holds up. Installation was easy as the amplifier is small and came with screws.
One issue I came across was the double speaker outputs. There was no mention in the instructions on which terminals should be used for a single sub setup. After looking at forums and videos, I determined that any combination worked.
