Boss BX45

better than I expected!

I've been installing car audio for 25 years & have built many custom systems in my cars in the past. I'm not a big fan of Boss equipment, although they make the best & probably the most used guitar effect pedals in the music industry. Their car audio equipment has a bit of a reputation of not lasting and being cheaply made. However, I just got this crossover hooked up in my car and I must say I'm impressed! This is my first piece of Boss equipment as in the past I've used high end equipment such as Rockford Fosgate, Audio Control, Pioneer, etc, but I'm older now with more responsibility having a family so I built an inexpensive system for sound quality. I listen mostly to rock (Korn, Slipknot, Mudvayne, Linkin Park, etc). My system consists of a JVC KD-A925BT deck, SPL SPQ-20 passive EQ, the Boss BX45, a Dual XPE2700 amp, an MTX TC4004 amp, a set of Sony Xplod 6 3/4" components & a Sony Xplod 12" sub...all in all, thanks to Sonic Electronix I have about $500 total invested in this system. The mids from the Sony set were a little overbearing so I decided to add a crossover & another amp to have seperate control of my tweeters & mids (the passive crossover from the Sony component set allows bi-amping of the mids & tweets seperately). I admit I was a little leery of buying a Boss piece but considering their reputation of sound processors for musicians I decided to go with this crossover. What I needed was a piece that had seperate Front, Rear & Sub inputs as my SPL EQ has Front, Rear & Sub outputs & I can control everything from the dash. Although this crossover has a remote bass control, I don't use it as I use the bass control from the SPL, but I did test it & it works fine. The sound quality of my system improved greatly after installing this crossover, as did the db's. My sub was punchy before. Now it vibrates my entire backend! I'm gonna have to invest in some Dynamat now lol. I actually had to tone down my EQ settings & readjust my gain settings on the amps after installing this crossover. Just to give you an idea of how I have this set up, my tweets are run off the front output thanks to the 20x multiplier option which crosses them over at 5000hZ, exactly what the passive crossover from my component set does, These are powered by the Dual amp. My mids are crossed over at 100hZ & run thru the front channel of the MTX amp. The sub is crossed over at 60 hZ & bridged thru the rear channel of the MTX. I do have one complaint tho...when I started adjusting the sub gain I get what I would call a push of air if I turn the gain up from the minimum mark, kinda like a thump in my sub as you would get when an amp thumps it when powered on. This is no biggie for me tho since I have the gain set & won't be changing it. There is definitely a cleaner overall sound to my entire system now. I can turn my volume up all the way on the SPL & there is zero distortion. The max volume of my deck is 50 & it's set to 45 now that I've installed this crossover. Before, it was at 37 & distortion set in with the EQ volume turned 3/4 of the way up. This is probably due to adding the crossover with high voltage output (I chalk this up to the whole concept of the more times a signal is processed the cleaner & stronger it gets theory). I have zero engine noise as well so if you ground it correctly that won't be an issue. Everything works fine. It doesn't seem to be as cheaply-made feeling as I thought it would. It's a nice looking piece of equipment. Overall I'm very satisfied, even tho I've only had it installed for a few hours. If you're looking for an inexpensive addition for separate control of a component set or front/rear speakers, you definitely won't go wrong with this piece.

Great Crossover

I have this in my truck and I have had it for about a year now. It works great with no problems. The only bad with it is if you don't know how to use one like this one with all of the knobs it can be hard to figure it out. I have used one other and it was a MTX with the same setup, but if you do it right you have hard hitting bass when you want it. That is why I like using crossovers in my set up. Some don't but I'm kinda old school and that's what you used if you wanted more bass in your system.
The best thing about the this one is, it's a all in one and for the price on here it's a really good deal. Boss them self's sale it for around 100 the last time I looked, so for 44 bucks and some change it's a good deal. It works just as good or better than the name brand ones out there. Boss is a off brand but I have bought and used there stuff with no problems. Plus it looks great and they give you the bass knobs. When you use the knobs there is a blue led light on it so it looks nice at night. The only draw back on that is, it's really bright so make sure you place it some where that it will not blind you at night.

I would tell anyone to buy this, just the one con of it is the ease to use part, if you are a beginner I would go a different way if you don't want to mess with it.

Wow

Buy this product. Its freakin amazing. Trust me. I just hooked it up to my old school fosgate 1000 watt amp pushing two kicker 15s cvr. I am amazed. It is rocking in my 2000 expedition. The bass has way more vibrations and kicks harder no dought. I wan get back in my truck and beat alllll day. I cant put it into words. Wow. Next I will put in an xtra battery and new headset and its a wrap. I got a bigass expedition with kickass bass. Especially if ur a first timer u should go to a empty lot and crank it up and play with the knobs till u get it right. Thanks boss.

Boss BX45

i bought this for my girls 2002 infiniti g20 that has a factorery bose system in it ,that dont sont that bad,i bought a pieoneer head unit for her bday,and this Boss BX45 well be for i hooked it up it didnt sound the good,but after man wht a defrence if your on a budget this is greast,but if your not on a budget,get something higher end

The Boss Bx45 is an amazing product... It came for me all the way to zambia in one piece! I have 2 ice power amps 1600w and 3300w respectively all controlled by the BX45 and once i adjusted the controls..OH MY GOSH!! this product is a must have if you looking for a affordable good quality crossover! 3way X-over

From what reviews there are from Sonic, this crossovers seemed ideal for what I needed for my stereo. However, after installation I noticed a drop in sound quality and the sub channel kept popping no matter what, even after setting the gains and proper frequencies. Well, after all I could do, I decided to take it out. Great price, I like the six channel input and output design. All the knobs seemed very poor in design, felt like the would break easily.
