The new Sony GS series of subwoofers are the perfect way to get outstanding bottom end into your audio system. Whether you are expanding into a full-blown aftermarket setup, or are just looking to integrate better overall performance into your OEM setup, the GS Series has you covered. These drivers have been purposed-engineered to deliver outstanding sound quality and exponentially better overall performance over anything else in its price bracket.
The XS-GSW121D, specifically, is a 12" Dual Voice Coil subwoofer driver intended to deliver larger, yet controlled, "boomy" bass. Its large surface area allows it displace a lot of air to reach the desired low end frequency range. It is also able to accomplish this by maximizing the overall build quality, delivering a very solid 520 Watts RMS with an excursion peaking at 8.9mm. In addition, the XS-GSW121D has a very respectable Frequency Response range of 20 - 600 Hz, making it very easy to blend (crossover) into your Full-Range stage.
The XS-GSW121D single voice coil subwoofer driver cone is constructed using a Mica Reinforced Cellular Honeycomb design for reduced weight and increase rigidity, delivering deep bass response. A subwoofer's cone wants to naturally bend and warp due to the force exerted by the motor of the driver. If allowed the sound produced is Not accurate and of poor quality. The XS-GSW121D is engineered to counter act this, thereby delivering superb response.
The XS-GSW121D woofer uses a powerful, high energy Ferrite magnet to control cone travel and deliver outstanding power handling. The XS-GSW121D subwoofer is rated for 520 Watts (CEA 2031 rated), 420 Watts RMS and can handle peak power of 2000 Watts. This above-modest figure makes the XS-GSW121D perfect for a system starving for low end bass output. 500 Watts RMS will not shake a vehicle, but it will bring life to a bland audio system and deliver that thump we all love.
The XS-GSW121D 5-way gold plated binding post provide secure wire connections for high power handling. These terminals are capable of accepting a 10-gauge speaker wire to maximize power (Read: Wattage) delivery and performance. By accepting a slightly larger wire than most traditional 12" drivers, the XS-GSW121D is able to deliver more power than a traditional 12" driver. Moreover, the gaps in the stamped steel frame allow the driver to breath, greatly reducing the risk of burning out the subwoofer motor.

Ok
It's pretty good but there's no way it takes 500 watts 400 makes it over thump more like 350 and it's good for a small space.

Hits like a champ
I own the older model of these, the red 12" 1200watts and I have a 1100 watt class D mono block hooked to 2 of these and they pound and they haven't blown or sound crappy. They have very clean and clear bass. This subs shake my car and I can be heard down the street.

These are good subs for people who want to add bass but not as much as a Fosgate sub would add and great if u are on a budget these subs can beat pretty hard for what they are I would recommend these if on a tight budget

Great sub for the money
works well with songs that are not too bass heavy. Excessive amounts of low notes will get this sub burning quickly. I have had one installed for just over a year and have not burned it up yet but its performance has degraded.

great sub!
I only have 1 of these as I built a system for sound quality not SPL's. In the past all I would use were Rockford subs due to their build quality & sound. It's in a sealed box and it kicks as good as all the Rockford subs I've used. Perfect for tight punchy rock music. Not sure why Sony has lost followers. I also use an Xplod component set & they're just as clean sounding as this sub. 100% recommend it for that tight sealed box punch!
