My speakers sound "tinny" and have zero bass. Are they defective?

This is usually a phase issue. Check that the positive (+) and negative (-) wires are not swapped on one speaker. If one moves "out" while the other moves "in," they cancel each other's bass. Ensure the wider terminal is connected to positive.

The speaker fits the hole, but my factory door panel won’t snap back on. What to do?

The Stage2 624 has a tweeter that protrudes slightly past the frame. If it hits your factory grille, you may need to use a 1/2" spacer ring to sit the speaker deeper, or carefully trim the plastic "ribs" on the inside of your door panel.

I’m hearing a rattling sound from the door even at low volumes. How do I fix it?

These speakers come with "speed clips." If you screwed directly into thin metal without using the clips, the screws can loosen. Slide the metal clips over the mounting holes first, then drive the screws into the clips for a vibration-free fit.

The volume is loud, but the sound "clips" or distorts when the bass hits. Any tips?

Your factory radio may be "bass rolling" to protect original speakers. If you kept the stock head unit, try lowering the bass EQ setting and increasing the volume. For an easy fix, adding a small inline "Bass Blocker" can prevent distortion.

My car has 6.5" speakers, but the screw holes don't line up with this JBL frame. What to do next?

While these are 6.5", many vehicles (like Toyota or Honda) use a 3-hole triangular pattern. You will need a vehicle-specific adapter bracket (like a Metra 82-8148). Don't drill new holes into the car metal if an adapter is available.

One speaker randomly cuts out while I'm driving. Is it blown?

Likely a loose connection at the spade terminals. Since car doors slam and vibrate, "crimped" connections can slide off. Use pliers to slightly tighten the female spade connector so it "snaps" onto the speaker terminal with high tension.

I see a gap between the speaker edge and the door metal. Does this matter?

Yes. An air gap allows the "back wave" of the speaker to meet the "front wave," killing your mid-bass. Use the foam gasket included in the box (or buy weatherstripping tape) to create a 100% airtight seal against the mounting surface.

Can I use the factory wiring, or do I need to run new wires to the dash?

You can use factory wiring, but don't cut the original plugs. Use "speaker harness adapters" (like Metra 72-series). This is a DIY-friendly solution that ensures correct polarity and allows you to reinstall your old speakers if you sell the car.
