JBL believes sound quality should never be compromised. And Series III subwoofers make sure you don't have to compromise flexibility, either. That's because the high-performance, step-up subwoofers feature SSI (Selectable Smart Impedance), an exclusive impedance switch that lets you select the optimum impedance2 or 4 ohmsfor your system. Special aero-cooling design in the voice coil boosts power handling as well as reliability. And an oversized voice coil handles more power than common two-inch voice coils. More power, more reliability, more flexibilityand no compromising. When you're ready to step up, Series III is your subwoofer.
Most car audio system designs call for 2- or 4-ohm impedance. Series III subwoofers feature an exclusive dual impedance switch that lets you choose either load impedance option. Not available from any other manufacturer, SSI lets you reconfigure your system by simply flipping a switch.
Aero-cooled voice coilThe Series III voice coil significantly increases power handling and improves reliability by going with the flowof air. The woofer's motor channels air pumped by the cone movement past the voice coil, and the voice coil former exposes the coil's inner and outer surfaces to the airflow. This aero-cooling design is unique among aftermarket subwoofers.
Oversized voice coilThe three-inch (75mm) voice coil proves you don't have to be a heavyweight to pack a serious punch. It handles more power than conventional two-inch voice coils, yet it's lighter than four-inch voice coils. It strikes the perfect balance between thermal power handling and low mass.
Premium screw-down terminalsPower is the lifeblood of any subwoofer. The terminals on the Series III accommodate up to 8-guage wire (8.37mm2 cross section), which transfers low-resistance, low-loss power to the woofer, even over long wire runs. This ensures the subwooferand your musichas the power it needs.

Priced Individually
*Infinite-baffle mounting is possible, but the subwoofer's mechanical power handling will be reduced because there will be no volume of air to stiffen the subwoofer's suspension and prevent overexcursion. If you choose infinite-baffle mounting, consider the RMS and peak power-handling ratings to be half of what is listed

First off, I work at a car audio shop in virginia . I 've been in the industry since 1998 . I bought a couple of these subs thinking of moving to four in the very near future.I replaced 2 re se subs with these . I am very pleased with the sound and responce of these .
They seem to have more punch than the re's.
The only thing that disturbs me is jbl lists a 3 " voice coil but they only have a 2 1/2" v.c. , i did not know this until i opened the box
One look and i knew something was amiss . And sure enough the paperwork that comes with the sub says 2 1/2" .

Looking for a heavy duty sub with serious bass, look no further. I bought this sub just under 2 months ago and I could not be more pleased. The screw down terminals make a huge difference in sound and performance. When I first got this sub, I was running 16 gauge speaker wires and when I installed 8 gauge wires to the sub, I noticed a huge difference. My sub instantly sounded more bold and clear. Lastly, I really like the build quality of this sub. Everything feels very high quality and sturdy unlike some of the other brands that I have owned in the past.

a lot of people go for the marketing hype, JL, rockford blah blah .. JBL put out a monster sub at this price, it does about 500W and just looking at the heavy duty build when you unbox this you know you got yourself a lot of bang for the buck. it delivers, this thing blows away the competition. just make sure you have enough watts from your amp bc it would be shame to underpower this beauty
