The JL Audio RD1000/1 is a high-power, sleek monoblock amplifier from the RD series, designed specifically for subwoofer applications. It builds on the efficiency of the JD series by adding a more refined aesthetic, including a top-mounted LED status bar and a protective cover for the controls. It uses NexD high-speed switching technology to deliver massive power with very low distortion.

The RD1000/1 is designed for easy and accurate setup. It features the same onboard LED clipping indicator as the JD line, but in a more premium chassis. The controls are top-mounted for easy access even after the amplifier is installed, and the differential-balanced inputs ensure your audio remains free of alternator whine and other electrical noise.

The Status LED is solid Red and the amp won't play. Is it blown?

Not necessarily. Solid Red indicates "Thermal Protection" or a low-voltage condition. Check your ground point for paint or rust. If the amp is hot, ensure it has at least 1 inch of clearance for airflow to reset the thermal switch.

My "Input Sens." LED stays Red even at low volume. How do I fix this?

This means the input signal is clipping. Lower the gain knob immediately. If it persists even at the lowest setting, check if your head unit's "Bass Boost" or "Loudness" is on, as these can overdrive the amp's input stage.

Can I run this amplifier at a 1-ohm load for maximum power?

No. The RD1000/1 is optimized for 2-ohm stability. Running it at 1 ohm will cause the "Over-Current" protection to trip, resulting in the LED flashing Red/Blue. For best results, wire your subwoofers to a 2-ohm or 4-ohm final load.

I’m using the factory radio. Do I need a separate Line Output Converter (LOC)?

Usually, no. This amp features "Differential-Balanced" inputs that handle high-level signals. Cut the RCA ends off a cable or use JL’s XD-CLRAIC2-SW to wire your speaker leads directly into the RCA inputs without needing an external LOC.

Why does my bass sound "weak" even though the amp is at 1000W?

Check the "Infrasonic Filter" (Subsonic). If it’s set too high (e.g., 50Hz), it will cut out the deep bass notes. For a ported box, set it to roughly 30Hz. Also, ensure the "Low Pass" filter is not set too low (keep it around 80Hz).

The amp turns on (Blue LED) but there is no sound at all. What's the fix?

Verify the "Input Mode" switch. If you are only using one RCA cable but the switch is set to "2 Ch," you might not get output. Also, check the 80A or 100A fuse on your main power wire; a "blown" fuse can sometimes still let 12V through with no current.

What size power wire should I use for a 1000W RMS monoblock?

You must use 4 AWG 100% Oxygen-Free Copper (OFC) wire. Avoid "CCA" (Copper Clad Aluminum) as it cannot handle the 100A+ current draw of this amp, which leads to overheating and significant voltage drops during heavy bass hits.

My RBC-1 remote knob isn't changing the volume. Is the knob broken?

Ensure the cable is a standard telephone-style (RJ11) but specifically the one provided by JL. If you used a generic phone cord, the pinout might be different. Also, the knob only works if the "Input Sens." gain is already set correctly on the amp.
