What's the difference between S-Series like the SMW124 and SQ-Series like the SQW124?

Both S-series and SQ-series subwoofers are categorized as shallow-mount subwoofers. However, SQ Series is designed for higher power and more precise bass, while the S Series is a more budget-friendly entry-level shallow option.

Do shallow subwoofers like the SMW124 sound thinner than regular subwoofers?

Shallow doesn’t have to mean weak. SMW124 uses a non-pressed paper cone and high roll surround to maintain a low resonant frequency. It hits the gut-punch notes that other shallow subs usually miss entirely.

Will a factory amplifier suffice for a shallow subwoofer?

Not at all. Despite its relatively thin build, you need to have an external monoblock amp to move the 300W RMS motor. Stock power would destroy the subwoofer.

How can I stop the SMW124 from potential overheating in a tight enclosure?

Tight boxes are heat traps. NVX added a vented pole piece to help the 2" coil breathe. Just ensure the back of the magnet has at least an inch of clearance so the vent can actually exhale hot air. Don't choke your bass!

Is this better than an 10" N Series subwoofer with standard depth?

If you have 6 inches of depth, go with NSW102/NSW8104. If you have 4 inches, SMW124 is your savior. This subwoofer is designed to fit in tight spaces without the weak performance of generic budget shallow subs.

So far very impressed, bought with the Atrend 12tk shallow truck enclosure bundle for Black Friday, at a total of only $120, it’s great so far. Installed it behind the rear seats in my 1995 f350 crew cab, paired with a Skar amp. So budget friendly was the goal. It sounds amazing, very clean and crisp, and hits way harder than I was expecting. Build quality seemed great, especially for the price. So far so good! Give it a shot if you’re in the market for a shallow mount subwoofer! Wont be disappointed.

Needed a sub for my Nissan Hardbody. Very limited on space in a single cab. Mated with Skar 350 mono in a sealed box & it’s like a concert inside. Bass drops & plays any genre with clarity. Would definitely recommend.
