For over 60 years JBL has been delivering products that embody the technology gained through its leadership role in the professional arena: recording studios and movie theaters as well as live-music reinforcement ranging from dance clubs to Woodstock. Our mission continues to be to transform this expertise into products that provide the impact and excitement of a live music performance. JBL is for customers who won’t settle for less than live at home or on the road. JBL’s GTO Series Subwoofers have been engineered to put you in the front row at your next concert. They deliver deep solid, tight bass that can only be delivered by JBL, the leader in concert sound.
Car audio subwoofers take more abuse than any other car audio component, making thundering bass for hours on end. For a car audio enthusiast, there’s nothing worse than a broken sub. At JBL, we thoroughly test our designs before we deliver them. JBL woofers have to pass a 100-hour power test, where the RMS and peak power levels are tested simultaneously. When you see ‘300 watts RMS’ and ‘1200 watts peak’ in our ratings, you can be sure that those numbers are tested and verified. Additionally, to be sure the moving parts are robust; we subject every design to a proprietary mechanical power handling test at up to 17 times the RMS power handling rating. That means these woofers have to survive test signals as high as 6000 watts. We’re fanatics about product quality.
JBL GTO subwoofers include die-cast aluminum baskets, polypropylene cones, rubber surrounds and a unique tinsel wire protector that also strengthens joint between the cone, the voice coil and the spider. That joint is the most critical of all and must withstand more stress than any other point in the moving assembly. Great performance and superior reliability have been JBL’s hallmark for over 60 years and the new JBL GTO subwoofers offer both at affordable prices. The JBL Grand Touring Die-Cast Subwoofers are designed to be used in sealed, vented and bandpass enclosures.
Sonic Electronix, one of the leaders in car audio, recently visited Harman, the premium global audio and infotainment group, at their research and development locations in Northridge, California and Detroit, Michigan. The purpose of these visits was to utilize and combine the powerful brand of Harman and the industry leading knowledge behind Sonic Electronix to begin working together on developing future car audio projects.

This sub rocks. Placed this sub in a .75cf sealed custom fiberglass enclosure. I chose a sealed enclosure for clean tight bass response. I wasn't disappointed! I powered the sub with a SOUNDSTREAM RUB 4.500 with a crossover point of 100hz. The bass responce is smooth and tight with a smooth roll off at the high end frequencies. The construction of the sub seems solid and well engineered. I recommend this product.

I have this sub hooked to a small 250 watt RMS 1100 peak amp and it sounds great - distortion free, tight bass with plenty of thump! I wish I would of got the DVC to wire in parallel but then that would be too much bass for my CR-V. I have owned several JBL products over the years and as always quality is evident. Sonic shipped fast but did forget the polyfill in my enclosure that I ordered with this as a combo but I had a bag in the garage and they already did good by me with free shipping and a unbelievable deal!

not much trunk space in my scion TC so had to go with a 10" . I think i made a good decision because i actually had to turn down my 250 watts amp so the bass wont overpower the stock highs. I cant imagine what a 12" sub would sound like.. but the 10" is very clear and powerful.

This is a great sub for the price it may only be 4 ohms but it compares pretty good with RF p2. Its a very sturdy power hungry sub.

found this helpful.Great sub.
This is a great little sub. Have it in a 1.5cf ported box (after speaker and port displacement) tuned to 30hz (1x10x15.54" port) with 200 watts. It is more then enough to produce the lows. I turned the sub output on the head unit down to half as the sub was extremely overpowering. This thing will thump if you want it to or it blend very well and give you the lows and be accurate.
The $80 price tag is a steal.
Get 1 or 2 of these and put them each in the same box I have and a real 500 watt amp and 90% of people will be very happy with what these little puppies will do.

If you don't have the space for 12 inch subs, this is a great sub-stitute. Nice hard hitting sub for rock, Bach and jazz. Decent 12 inch subs will pump more air if you have the room.

Definitely would recommend this sub if you want some nice bass but nothing crazy in your car. I had a Honda Civic 1997 and it sounded absolutely perfect. No buzzing, clear, responsive, and added enough boom :)
Unfortunately I can't say how long they last because my car with all my aftermarket audio stuff was stolen. But till buy something like this again for my new car.
