SoundStorm SSL EVO5000.1 Slams!
I hooked up this amp with 4 gauge wire ( which is all it can take ) without my second battery hooked up yet, and put it on a 12" sub 300 watt rms, and didn't even have the gain turned 1/4" of the way up and it slammed. Right now i'm waiting to get the money for my box for my power acoustic mofo 15" woofers i have 2 and will be wiring down to one ohm. Also i need my second wire kit to run to the battery. When I was playing hard low bass I noticed my voltage dropped low even with the gain barely up, so this amp is power hungry and you will need a second battery to run it. Overall i would say buy it, its a great deal and you will be happy with it, and at first i was a little bit timid to buy it but this thing defintley puts out at least 2000 watts rms and i guarantee more.

the description says 1/0 ga wiring needed to install. that is NOT true, 4 ga is the largest you can fit in the power/ground inputs. i had to buy gauge adapters/reducers in order to install as all my wiring is 0 ga.
runs very quietly and doesn't produce too much heat for now since it is the winter. however there aren't any FANS or VENTS on the amp to dissipate heat so i would not suggest running this amp for prolonged periods if it's the summer time or if you place the amp where there isn't A LOT of air circulation.
first thing i did when i got the amp was to put it on a bench and clamp it. at 2 ohms it clamped at 2600 watts, and at 1 ohm it put out 3750. i have it running 2 soundqubed hdc315 subs and it produces clear and accurate bass. not the best but at this price point, it's well worth the money. also had it running orion hcca 15.2 and it can really push that sub as well. i don't meter my vehicle so i couldn't tell u what i hit on the db meter.
there are a good bit of options to tune the amp to your musical preference and that's not very common in an amp this price range offering this much power. has options to run as either slave/master amp so if you need multiple amps this can do so. the remote gain knob is very convenient should u want to adjust gain level without having to go to the amp itself. however it is very sensitive; just the slightest turn really changes the gain.
aesthetically the amp is clean and sleek. design is very simple and doesn't look overly gaudy. the brushed nickel finish would look great if you want to showcase the amp rather than hide it during installation, but it does show smudges easily. no fuse block was included in my purchase as the pictures of the listing suggested.
i purchased the extended warranty through sonic when i bought it since it was provided by square trade, a company that i trust and have used in the past. SSL also provides an extra 5 yrs of extended warranty from the original purchase date if you want to take advantage of that instead. i am doing both.
overall for the price there aren't any amps that offer more power and more tuning controls. this is a great starter amp to get you set up until you can save up for a more powerful amp. but for my everyday use just running a pair of 15s it does the job just fine

I got the amp and wired it up and it kicks so hard I had to replace my subs to 15" with the amp on half to keep my windows in.

I have had the amp for a few weeks now, it puts as much power to my 15s as I can handle, def great for bragging rights. I used 2ga 100% copper wire with etra battery, it pulls every bit of 200amps. Exactly what I wanted on a budget.

I was quite hesitant to purchase this amp. After the purchase, I was stunned to find little to no information anywhere on the internet about this amp.
Whenever you go to discuss this amp, you must realise that there are two different Evolution amps in the SSL lineup, the EV series, and the EVO series. It's a massive difference. The EV series is certified junk. The ev4k Does 1600RMS at its limit.
The EVO amp, (the one I am wiriting a review for) seems to have a good amount of power. Not 5000, as the fuse rating for the amp is 200. 200 amps at 14.4 volts is approx 2800 watts.
This amp is seemingly purposefully difficult to disassemble. There is no back plate for you to remove and inspect the insides. you have to remove the side plates, too, with what seem to be small and who-knows-how-strong screws. They know that you will look inside and see that it is not a 5000 watt amp.
I have this amp pushing two skar svr's in a small sealed box, it hits quite well. Deep, clear, powerful. The amp doesn't get that hot but that's because it's mounted in my back seat and has tons of airflow. Mount one of these in a hot location and I'd expect it to die.
It has an Input level selector, millivolts to 2V, and the other option is 4v and higher. My head unit is 4v, yet, the amp is only happy when i select the 2v input option. No idea. But nothing seems to be malfunctioning...
SSL, please rename this the EVO.2500.1.
I would say, if you like this amp, go for it, but just understand that you're gonna be getting 2000ish rms at max. Which still makes it a decent amp for the price, in my opinion.
Three and a half stars. You can get higher quality amps that put out more power & are smaller for about the same price. I won't mention these amps or dealers out for respect for Sonic.
