This potent 5-Channel amplifier employs JL Audio's high-speed NexD switching design to achieve unprecedented efficiency and amazing power output in a very compact chassis. Don't let the small size fool you, though... this amplifier is capable of serious power, delivering a full 700 W of total continuous power into a 2 ohm load (14.4V, 1% THD) per channel. Targeted specifically for an audiophile-grade subwoofer + four satellite system, the XD700/5v2 includes a variable slope low-pass filter for the Subwoofer Channel and continuously variable cutoff frequency selection for all channels from 50-500 Hz - x10 capable for Ch 1/2. The XD700/5v2 also features the v2 Spec feature set, which consists of automatic turn-on capability (via signal sensing or DC-offset sensing), and a dual-range differential balanced input section able to handle a wide range of input voltage levels. With the addition of an HD-RLC remote level control (sold separately), you can control the volume of the subwoofer channel (Subwoofer Level) or of the entire XD700/5v2 from the front of the vehicle (Master Volume). This amplifier features a black powder-coat finish and a gasketed, brushed aluminum cover for the controls.
JL Audio's signature Advanced Thermal Rollback protection system eliminates annoying thermal shutdown events to keep the music playing, even under the most demanding conditions. Should the amplifier reach an unsafe operating temperature, a special circuit rolls back peak power output, without changing gain, until the amplifier cools down to a safe operating temperature. The red "Thermal" LED will light to indicate this condition has been reached. Once the amplifier cools down, the circuit restores full peak power output and the red "Thermal" indicator reverts to its normal state. The operation of Advanced Rollback Protection is inaudible in most cases.
From the same minds that gave us the technology found in the 'Slash' amplifiers, JL Audio has taken the simple fixed PWM design approach and enhanced it with a very high switching frequency. Full-range NexD amplifiers and channels feature a variable, ultra-high speed version of the NexD technology (switching at well over 400 kHz). In these designs, a self-oscillating modulator with "feed-forward" sends information about the instantaneous power supply voltage to the modulator, combining this with the input signal to cancel out any distortion due to supply voltage fluctuation. This reduces distortion prior to applying feedback, simplifying the overall feedback loop design.

Outstanding amp all around
Seriously, this amp rocks all around. I recently installed it in my Jeep Wrangler under the drivers seat and it's awesome having such a clean install with one amp running 5 channels. The foot print is very small for a 5 channel amp and having all the connections together makes it that much better.
Sound quality wise- this amp rocks it. It delivers more than enough power to my 2 sets of coax's (5.25's in the doors, 6.5's in an overhead soundbar) and the sub channel is most definitely underrated. I'm running two 2 ohm10's wired in series in a down firing box that are rated at 250w RMS and they sound/feel like they're driven by much more power than 300 watts.
Mids/highs are very crisp, clear, and balanced throughout regardless of the volume level, even when pushed towards max volume. This amp delivers nothing but crisp, clean power to all 5 channels. Best of all after a coup hours of listening at 75%+ volume! this little guy gets hardly warm to the touch. I can't speak much for durability since it's a fairly recent install, but nonetheless this amp is outstanding.
If you're looking for a compact, full-system amp that sounds killer and will fit many install applications, you can't go wrong. It's very well worth every penny. I ran another mainstream brands more entry-level amplifier prior to this and it blows it out of the water. It's a pretty penny for your average DIY car audio nerd looking for great sound but worth it!!!!!

Nice power amp but it didn't make it a year...
Pros: Good power output, decent warm sound for class D, clean solid design. Everything we have come to know and love about JL Audio is there.
Cons: No built in fuse (so more parts to buy), Mine didn't last a year and just sent it back for warranty replacement. Sound started cutting out intermittantly and then back to normal volume a few minutes later, then cut out. Replaced amp with my Kappa Five while I'm waiting for warranty replacement. Sonic's Service agent said it was defective after testing. (Here's to hoping the new one is better)
Overall: I bought it for the power and it seems to have plenty for my setup ( listed below). The design is not flashy it's a clean conservative look, and the size is perfect for stealth installs. The XD700/5's sound is pretty good although my Infinity Kappa Five has more clarity on the high end frequencies. Kappa Five lacks the power on the Sub channel even though the XD700/5 and Kappa Five are rated roughly the same power-wise.
I will be installing my replacement XD700/5 for sure, I just hope my first one was just one of those things and the new one is what I would expect from JL Audio.
Thanks Sonic Electronics for the easy return / exchange process. I've spent some $$$ with you guys over the years and you haven't let me down.
KW-AVX840 Head, Infinity Kappa 63.9c, Infinity Kappa 693.9I, JL Audio CP212-W0v3 Subs.... Cruisin' in my Impala, Just waiting on more power.

Tight!
This amp is easier to install as all the inputs are on the same side and the adjustments are all on top. The guide to set the preset levels were easy to follow. This amp is small and fits easily behind the seat of my chevy crew cab. I powers Infinity reference components x4 and a10" Rockford Fosgate shallow sub. I would recommend this product.

Worth the cost!
You really do get what you pay for. This amplifier exceeded my expectations as it supplies more than enough power to my 4 infinity ref 6.5 and my zstat zhp1244 sub. I also like the fact that this amp is easy on my cars electrical system and it is packed with features. One of the best amps I have ever owned.

JL AUDIO XD700/5
Have had this amp installed for about 6 months now with zero problems. It has done everything it advertised it would do and was small enough to easily hide. I would buy this again!!

Fantastic Amplifier
This amp is incredible. It is now doing the job that three amps were doing and it does it without breaking a sweat. Pay no mind to the subwoofer channel output, even though it's rated at 175 at 4 ohms this little power package thumps harder than my last amp did powering two 10s at 400 and now I only have one sub. My sub is only capable of 4 ohm (single voice coil at 4 ohm is impossible to run at 2 ohm) so I can only imagine this thing at 300 and 2 ohm. The speakers are the cleanest sounding I have ever heard them and that's after having them being powered by alpine pdr and pdx amps and they don't even compare. If you're considering this amp just do yourself a favor and buy it. The footprint is minuscule and the power is extremely underrated while not demanding much from your electrical system. Even at idle at max volume that my ears could handle the voltage only dropped 0.2V. Never overheats or quits.

You get what you pay for
This class D amp sounds like a class ab amp, very clear highs and strong midrange and mid bass. The sub channel is solid and produces lows like a champ. I set the gains with an SMD DD1, the amp never gets hot and does not stress out the electrical system. Spend the money folks u won't be disappointed.

Beware of this Amp
Purchased this amp late last year new from Sonic. It made it only a few months before I started having problems with it, same issues posted by JR on 09/08/12. I sent the amp back to Sonic for repair and got it back 2.5 months later only for them to say "could not duplicate problem". Prior to the return, I did extensive testing on RCA's, Speakers, Passive Crossovers, etc and it is definitely the amp. On a positive note, the amp was pretty darn impressive while it lasted.

JL AUDIO XD700/5
What a great amp!!! It is small, but more than able to back it up with ample punch!!! I`m driving 4 Focal splits and two JL 10" subs and it is more than up to the task of powering them all in a small package. Being a full class D, with more efficiency and runs cool. It deifinately has to be one of the best 5-channel amps out there A++++.
