How does the shallow mount design of the SWT-10S4 differ from a traditional subwoofer design?

Traditional subwoofers use deep baskets for big motors, but Alpine’s thin-mount design allows for a 4-3/16” depth without compromising the bass. SWT-10S4’s shallow depth is also a trunk-saver, allowing for mounting in tight areas such as in trucks.

What's with the sub's Kevlar-reinforced Pulp cone? Is it considered a strong material?

Yes, it is tough. Shallow cones lack depth and can flex under pressure. Kevlar adds the stiffness needed to stay accurate at 11mm of excursion. You get the warm sound of paper but with added structural strength when cranking up the bass.

Does having a single 4-ohm voice coil make it better sound quality-wise?

It’s not about quality, it’s about compatibility. Having a single 4-ohm subwoofer is a safe and reliable bet for a balanced system that doesn’t demand crazy current to sound great.

Can I wire two SWT-10S4 subs to a 1-ohm stable monoblock amp?

Two 4-ohm subs wire to 2 ohms in parallel. Most monoblocks are 1-ohm stable, but they run cooler and more efficiently at 2 ohms. If you want to hit exactly 1 ohm for maximum power, Alpine SWT-10S2 is your better bet.

How does the 'Airflow Back Plate' help in a tight truck box?

Truck boxes leave zero breathing room. Alpine’s dual-flare pole vent and back plate manage heat even when pressed against a wall. It recycles air to keep the coil cool, preventing "thermal fade" during those long, loud summer drives.

Great subs for the money

These subs are great for the cost of them. They hit harder than I expected for being shallow. My wife can hear me pulling into the driveway when she is inside with the tv on! I can't speak for their durability, but they look to be built really well. I would definitely recommend these.

Great for the price!

I built a box specific to the sealed box dimensions it requires. put it in my gladiator, and I am very happy with it. exactly what I needed for the cost. Yes, could I spend more and get more, sure. but this was exactly what I wanted.

Not worth it

Have 2 in a 2012 Dodge Ram hooked up CORRECTLY, nice to have them under the seat and out of the way. They do not BANG hard. If you buy the right door speakers and spend the same amount you'll get the same bang.

Pretty good for truck subwoofers

These were put in a 2017 GMC Elevation and they sounds pretty darn good! Their not completely shallow which helps keep some more depth I feel like but made a nice addition to the truck!
